The borne legacy

July 2017

It’s around this time of year that we start hearing from students fresh out of uni and looking for experience.

We get how important this is for them and try hard to ensure that before anyone comes in we understand what they’re looking to get out of their time here so we can offer them a truly meaningful experience.

Last week was the turn of Maddy, a second year NUA student with heaps of talent and passion. Maddy proved to be such a star that we awarded her with the coveted, never-before-presented, agency certificate of excellence (yes, we made this up just for her!)

Maddy has kindly put her thoughts about her time at borne into words.

We look forward to our agency being full of students over the coming months and we hope they all shine like Maddy.

My name is Maddy and I have just finished the second year of my degree in Graphic Design at Norwich University of the Arts. Over the past two weeks I have been on a placement at borne, which I have absolutely loved and learnt so much from.     During my placement I worked on two projects, a branding and visual identity project for a holiday rental company and a packaging brief for a porter beer. As branding and packaging are the two areas of design that I enjoy the most, getting to do this in a design studio environment has been great.

With time and guidance, I’ve been able to really perfect and craft my ideas and start to think in new ways. As well as gaining a better understanding of how to best present my work to clients. I massively enjoyed both projects, and am really pleased with the work I have produced.   Being at borne has also given me a deeper understanding of the day-to-day life of a creative agency – how things work and the sorts of deadlines you have to work to in the industry. I have learnt so much from all of their experience.  Everyone at borne has made me feel so welcome, and I was able to quickly settle in to make the most of my two weeks. And aside from work, I have also got to enjoy many cups of tea, a fair bit of cake and some dominoes two-for-Tuesday! This has been a great two weeks and has made me very excited to join the design industry in a year’s time. Thank you very much to borne for having me!
